Welcome to Hillhurst Dental Centre
The profession of dental hygiene is based on preventative dental treatment. The duties are undertaken by our amazing Registered Dental Hygienists (RDHs) who help to achieve and maintain healthy gum and bone tissue which contributes to overall dental and general health. Patient education is a major part of the tasks undertaken by our hygienists. What our hygienists do while you are in the office and what they educate you to do at home will help achieve the best outcome for your oral health.
Our Registered Dental Assistants (RDAs) are the backbone of the clinical team and help ensure your visit runs smoothly and comfortably. They assist the doctors during procedures, prepare treatment rooms, maintain strict sterilization standards, and help guide you through each step of your care. Our RDAs are highly trained in dental procedures, patient care, and infection control, and are always here to make your experience as seamless as possible.
Our Dental Administration team handles the day-to-day office administration for Hillhurst Dental and will be your first point of contact. In addition to scheduling appointments and answering your questions, our dental administrators are familiar with insurance coding and billing, dental terminology, and dental procedures.

Dr. Kenny Gryckiewicz – Calgary Dentist
Dr. Kenny Gryckiewicz always wanted to be a dentist as a kid as he always liked the idea of being his own boss. He then pursued his dream and graduated from the Loma Linda School of Dentistry. Dr. Kenny integrates both scientific and artistic elements into all of his work. He blends this approach with sincere compassion for all of his patients.
His favourite procedures are dental implants and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Kenny prides himself on his ability to ease anxious patients and is always willing to go the extra mile in addressing all of his patients’ dental needs.
In his personal time, he spends his free time with friends and family. Additionally, he enjoys playing sports like hockey, basketball, and golf.

Dr. Nenad Vrbancic – Downtown Calgary Dentist
Dr. Nenad Vrbancic is an NW Calgary Dentist located in Hillhurst in NW Calgary. Dr. Vrbancic has called Calgary his home since immigrating to Canada from Croatia in 1969 with his parents and two older sisters. Dr. Vrbancic’s late father Ivan was also a practicing dentist in Calgary. After numerous moves around the city, he attended St. Francis High School in the cities northwest.
At the age of 19, Dr. Vrbancic moved back to Europe to follow in his father’s footsteps and enrolled in the faculty of medicine at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. Subsequently, he enrolled at the Faculty of Stomatology, graduating in 1993 at the top of his class.
Upon returning to Canada, Dr. Vrbancic practiced dentistry in the winter of 1993/94 throughout the eastern Arctic among the Inuit, based out of Iqaluit, Baffin Island.
When he finally returned to Calgary in 1994, Dr. Vrbancic took an associate position with the late, esteemed pedodontist Dr. Gordon Kluzak. Desiring to have his own practice in the downtown core, it was good fortune that brought Dr. Vrbancic to Hillhurst Market in 1997.
Nenad married Tatiana in 1988 (his high school sweetheart), and they have four children, a boy the oldest and three daughters.
Dr. Vrbancic enjoys all aspects of modern dentistry and welcomes ALL new patients to his dental practice!
Dr. Jona Szakacs – Calgary Dentist
Born and raised in Calgary, Dr. Jona Szakacs discovered his calling in dentistry while working as a wildland firefighter for the government of Alberta. It was during one of those summers that he met a young man who had applied to dental school and who became his roommate for that season. After the summer, Dr. Szakacs shadowed dentists extensively and realized it was what he wanted to do for his career.
Dr. Szakacs completed his dental education at Western University in London, Ontario. He then returned to Alberta to complete a post graduate residency program at the University of Alberta where he received additional training in surgical procedures and the management of medically compromised patients.
Dr. Szakacs enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and loves building relationships with his patients. He knows that dental visits can be stressful, and if he can be a part of making his patients feel comfortable it gives him great satisfaction.
When he is not at work you can find him on his mountain bike, snowboard or split board with his wife Kelsie.
